School Information

Programs

The Lethbridge Montessori School offers a preschool program for 2 and a half to 5 year old children, a kindergarten program for 5 year olds and a Summer program for preschool and younger elementary age children.

School Hours

The school is open from 7:45 am to 5:15 pm, Monday through Friday. Children must be enrolled for the minimum of two and a half hours per day ( 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM or 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM), five days a week. Extended hours enrollment is available beyond these times.

Communication

A good communication flow is essential between parent, the teachers and the directress. Parents are encouraged to voice their concerns and ideas directly to the staff of the school, the Local Advisory Council (LAC) or through the Board of the Montessori Society. Parent-teacher interviews are scheduled twice a year to exchange information about the child’s progress. A monthly newsletter is published to inform parents of current and up-coming activities of the School. Notices are also posted on the bulletin board to keep parents informed of activities.

History

The Lethbridge Montessori School was founded in 1981 by Deanna Arelis and a group of parents who wanted a Montessori education for their children. The school offered a choice of morning and afternoon sessions as well as extended hours. The school was initially located in a classroom provided by the Public School Board at Alan Watson school. The following year, the school moved to McKillop School where it stayed for three years. Then, the school moved to the YWCA for two years under the new directorship of Hélèn Canesson. The current 9th Ave school facility was specifically designed and built to house the school and was completed in September 1988. Zahra Foroud became the new director in 1999 and expanded the school by developing a second larger location on Forestry Ave, which opened June 2010.
